Andrew Jackson Middle School Triumphs in State-Wide Math Competition

Local school clinches victory in West Virginia in the Prodigy State Challenge™ – the WORLD’S BIGGEST math competition

Charleston, WV – December 2025 – Andrew Jackson Middle School is celebrating being named the November State Champion in the world’s biggest math competition. Students joined forces to answer more correct questions than any other school in West Virginia as part of the Prodigy State Challenge monthly contest.

Hosted by Prodigy Education — a global leader in game-based learning — the State Challenge drives engaging math practice through exciting monthly contests, with classes uniting across their school to battle others for major prizes, the title of monthly state champion, and a chance to compete in the Prodigy National Cup finals.

Students at Andrew Jackson Middle School won the State Challenge Mythical League tier by correctly answering more math questions in November than any other school in the state. This victory earns them the State Champion title and automatic qualification to the national finals in May, where tech grants totaling more than $200,000 and additional rewards will be awarded.

“We are extremely proud of our students’ outstanding achievement,” said Rhonda Donohoe, Ed. D., Principal of Andrew Jackson Middle School. “The Prodigy State Challenge motivated students from across the school by turning math practice into a team sport. Teachers report students cheer one another on while growing their math skills which has been such a rewarding experience.”

Prodigy’s State Challenge runs from September to April and is open to all eligible classrooms across the U.S. Classrooms qualify if they use Prodigy Math and have a teacher account linked to a school in Prodigy’s database.

In addition to competing at the state level, any school that finishes in the top five of its tier during a monthly State Challenge can earn national recognition in the Prodigy National Cup, held May 1–14.

“Congratulations to all the teachers and students at Andrew Jackson Middle School for becoming state math champions,” said Alex Peters, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Prodigy. “State Challenge is designed to take student motivation to another level, inspiring a love of learning through teamwork and friendly competition. We wish them the best of luck in the Prodigy National Cup finals!”
